River Clean-up Events

Each year, volunteers collected scrap metal, plastic containers, and other trash from watershed streams.  Competitors then transform the junk into objets d’art and awarded prizes by local artist judges. 

2008 River Cleanup and Junk Art Contest

The Friends of the Mad River invite you to make art while beautifying the Valley. Walk, wade or float the Mad River and its tributaries to collect trash from its banks. Then bring what you find from your river cleanup efforts to the Village Square in Waitsfield and transform it into a sculpture, mosaic, or other art form. Judges will award prizes. Shuttles, canoes, and trash bags will be provided. Please bring gloves, sturdy shoes, and a friend. Call Caitrin for more details (496-9127). Pre-registration is appreciated, but not required.
