Climb It for Climate Series
Saturday, March 29th, 2025 | 4:30 - 8:00 pm
Sugarbush Resort, Lincoln Peak (102 Forest Dr, Warren, VT 05674)
Après: Venue TBA
The Climb It for Climate series returns! After the successful inaugural event in December that brought together the outdoor recreation community to contemplate their role in combatting climate change, the event is returning with a different twist - we're bringing climate advocates to skin & après with you! This event is brought to you by the Mad River Valley Backcountry Coalition and Friends of the Mad River in collaboration with Protect Our Winters (POW) and Sugarbush Resort.
Tour:
The event will kick off with a community skin, climbing to the top of the Gatehouse Quad and, for the adventurous, up North Lynx. Members of MRVBC will be there to direct you if you are unfamiliar with the route. The skinning group will gather at the Schoolhouse at 4:30 pm and begin their ascent around 5:00 pm. Our special guests will be skinning with the group, providing the opportunity to interact with them and share in the love of winter recreation. Those skinning will aim to return to the base lodge by 6:15 pm. You must fill out this waiver from the Catamount Trail Association, MRVBC's parent organization, to participate in the tour. You also must read Sugarbush's uphill policy before attending and obtain a free uphill travel pass.
A few things to note:
- You must have a completed CTA waiver and free Sugarbush uphill travel pass to participate
- The tour is conditions dependent; we will contact those registered by noon on the day of the event if we need to cancel the tour
- Unfortunately this is not an instruction opportunity; please come prepared with knowledge of your own gear and ability level
- We will have a limited capacity for both portions of the event, so please register ahead of time
Après:
Following the skin, we will gather to grab drinks/food and hear from POW athlete, Noah Dines, representatives from Protect Our Winters (POW), and other special guests. You might be thinking - will this be some boring PowerPoint presentation or formal panel? No, it will not! You will get the chance to hear from fellow skiers and boarders as they tell you about their thoughts on the intersection of climate change, environmentalism, and the outdoor community. You will then have the chance to interact with them and ask your burning questions. If you do not want to tour, you are still more than welcome to join the après and discussion!
Schedule:
4:30 - Touring group gathers
5:00 - Touring group begins ascent
6:15 - Touring group returns
6:30 - Bar opens and après begins
6:45 - Special guest discussion and Q&A begins
8:00 - Discussion wraps up
