Storm Smart Assessment

"What a great program! We got the expert advice we were looking for along with follow up visits for feedback and to help us implement the solutions! The lifespan of our driveway has been extended and the river has been spared a source of runoff. This is a win/win for the river and anyone with a driveway."

The Storm Smart program is built around actions that you can take on your own property to slow down, spread out, and sink in stormwater. How can you figure out what those actions are? The answer is simple, schedule a Storm Smart assessment. A knowledgeable Friends of The Mad River staff person or volunteer will work with you to trace the path water takes through your property. After the in-person assessment you will receive individualized recommendations for your property and hands on assistance to make your property Storm Smart!

Assessment

During the assessment, Friends staff will work with you to trace the path water takes through your property and identify opportunities to slow it down, spread it out, and sink it in before it can lead to erosion and flooding issues downhill and downstream.

Custom Report

After the assessment, Friends staff will provide you with a write up of opportunities discussed during the assessment. This write up will include a list of recommended practices and Green Infrastructure solutions.

Follow Up

Once you have had a chance to review the report, Friends staff will schedule a follow up visit and survey to answer questions and help resolve barriers to 'spongifying' your property.

Spongify!

Now that you have a plan of action - it's time to start sinking water in where it lands. Storm Smart participants who complete the survey, follow up visit, and commit to taking action on their property are eligible to receive;
  • a gift card and 10% discount to participating local hardware stores
  • entry into a raffle for a chance to win a FREE rain barrel
